Core practice

Strategic Advisory

Strategic Advisory is the foundation of Tempo’s work. It brings the whole situation into view, clarifies what matters and helps boards and executive teams reach sound, workable decisions.

The same discipline underpins Tempo’s work across China Advisory and Executive Mentoring.

Strategic Advisory

Strategy starts with the whole picture

Tempo works with boards and executive teams when a decision reaches across strategy, governance, commercial priorities and organisational dynamics.

Tempo’s experience is grounded in property and urban development, masterplanning, infrastructure, housing, aged care and community services, often where public, private and not-for-profit interests intersect.

Clients typically engage Tempo while the issue is still taking shape, when interests must align or the consequences reach across disciplines. The work may involve assessing an investment, structuring a partnership, reviewing governance arrangements, resolving delivery constraints or guiding organisational change.

Tempo clarifies what is at stake, tests the available options and examines what each path requires and sets in motion. Engagements range from independent review and direct board advice to support during implementation.

China Advisory

China in context

China Advisory brings commercial, cultural and operational context together, giving boards and executive teams a clearer basis for decisions.

Tempo begins with the commercial objective, assesses the interests and conditions surrounding it and shapes its advice around the matter at hand.

Direct experience across Australia and China informs each engagement. Tempo combines current intelligence with practical judgement to interpret change, test assumptions and identify a workable course before clients commit time, capital and resources.

The practice includes strategic advice, market intelligence, China Study Tours and China Procurement Advisory.

China Study Tours

Understanding starts on the ground

China’s commercial landscape changes by region, city and sector. First-hand experience reveals the conditions shaping each market.

Tempo designs focused study tours for boards, executive teams and investment groups seeking direct insight into a particular market, industry or operating environment.

Each programme begins with a clear commercial question. Tempo then identifies the cities, organisations and people most relevant to the enquiry.

Tempo manages the itinerary, briefings, introductions and translation, and provides commercial and cultural context throughout. Participants return with direct insight and a stronger basis for decision-making.

China Procurement Advisory

The advantage is knowing how both sides work

Effective procurement from China aligns quality, programme, commercial terms and supplier performance across two different regulatory and operating environments.

Tempo advises project owners, developers and contractors procuring construction products from China. We identify and assess suppliers against project requirements, then establish commercial arrangements and quality controls aligned with Australian standards and delivery expectations.

Tempo strengthens the client’s procurement function with China-side commercial intelligence, factory qualification, quality assurance and logistics coordination.

Executive Mentoring

Good judgement needs space to take shape

At senior levels, decisions become less clear-cut, consequences widen and there are fewer places to test thinking openly.

Tempo works one-to-one with directors, executives and business owners facing complex decisions, leadership transitions or changing organisational demands. Each engagement is confidential, practical and shaped around the individual and the situation before them.

Tempo brings an independent perspective grounded in direct experience across leadership, governance and organisational change. The work focuses on testing assumptions, understanding the dynamics at play and helping leaders decide and act with clarity.

Community mentoring

Each year, Tempo makes a limited number of mentoring engagements available at no charge. Tempo also supports mentoring programmes delivered with industry partners, including UDIA, as a practical contribution to the wider business community.
